EDITING
THE DOCUMENTARY
provides editing experience
in three areas: developing information-handling systems to deal with large
amounts of documentary film material, acquiring the means to apply ideas
about that material in order to develop a comprehensive authorial approach,
and acquiring editing skills in using digital, non-linear off-line video
editing equipment. You will explore the entire range of documentary issues
through screenings and articles. You will edit your own film interpretation
from ten hours of digitized rushes from an ethnographic film dealing with
the healing ritual of a Yucatec Maya shaman, a film dealing with grass-roots
organizations attempting to influence the 1996 Democratic National Convention
in Chicago, and a film dealing with dog-show hopefuls.
